Record-Setting Year for Swing to Cure!

What an amazing year for Swing to Cure! This year's "Swing to Cure" diabetes golf event was once again picture perfect: sunny skies, warm temperatures and a full slate of golfers at the venerable UM Golf Course. Thank you to our lead sponsors Ė Varnum LLP and Conway MacKenzie. Their generous commitment helped make this year's event the most successful ever, raising over $140,000 for juvenile diabetes research at the U of M Diabetes Center and the JDRF Metro Detroit/Michigan Chapter.

Thank you to everyone who attended the event! With over 145 golfers and several honored guests, the event was once again sold out. We want to thank Coach Lloyd Carr for his opening remarks and reminding us why it's important to continue research for diseases such as type 1 diabetes. Coach Jim Harbaugh's gracious appearance shortly after landing in the country from a overseas mission trip was a highlight for our golfers and was featured in many news outlets.

Hosts of 2015 Swing to Cure Diabetes

Swing to Cure Diabetes was founded by former University of Michigan football player and Varnum attorney Rich Hewlett and his wife, Chris. The couple began raising money and awareness for juvenile diabetes research after their son, Jeffrey, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 14 years ago.

The annual golf outing is attended by many of Rich's Wolverine teammates and coaches, including U of M head coaches Gary Moeller and Lloyd Carr.

2014 Outing - Our Most Successful Event Ever!

On behalf of my family, we thank you for your loyal support and participation in the 2014 Swing to Cure Diabetes Golf Outing. Each of you played an important part in making this year's golf outing our most successful event ever!

With everyone's help and generosity we raised over $87,000 to jointly benefit JDRF and the University of Michigan Comprehensive Diabetes Center ("UMCDC"). Combined with our other outings, you have helped raise over $370,000 in the effort to fund a cure for Type 1 juvenile diabetes.

Your contribution to the Outing financially supports many research and clinical trial projects for JDRF and the UMCDC. Your involvement and generous contributions give hope to those young people who fight this disease every day. They sincerely appreciate your efforts. Thank you for all you do.

2013 Outing

On behalf of my family, we thank you for your loyal support and participation in the 2013 Swing to Cure Diabetes Golf Outing. Each of you played an important part in making this year's golf outing another successful event.

With everyone's help and generosity we raised over $65,000 to jointly benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation ("JDRF") and the University of Michigan Comprehensive Diabetes Center ("UMCDC"). Combined with our other outings, you have helped raise over $285,000 in the effort to fund a cure to juvenile diabetes.

Your contribution to the Outing financially supports many research projects in Michigan and throughout the world. As I described at the Outing, with funding from JDRF, the UMCDC is engaged in exciting clinical trials, including one involving my son, Jeff. Thank you again for your support. Your involvement and generous contributions give hope to those young people who fight this disease every day. They truly appreciate your efforts.

2012 Outing a Huge Success!

Video: A Good Time for a Good Cause

The Fourth Annual "Swing to Cure" Golf Event, held May 21, 2012 at the University of Michigan Golf Course, raised over $58,000 for diabetes research. Proceeds from the event benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Michigan Comprehensive Diabetes Center.

 A Few Words From Jeffrey...
Ever since I was 4 years old, I have had diabetes. I donít remember what life was like without diabetes. I wake up every day and the first thing I do is poke my finger.  Then after that, I take a shot to cover everything I have eaten. This is the routine I do before every meal, everyday. Even during school, I leave class 5 minutes early to test and give myself a shot before lunch. Diabetes has never slowed me down.

I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your help. I enjoy playing golf and am very excited about the Swing to Cure Diabetes golf outing. I hope to see you there!
